West Coast

The West Coast, especially Southern California, is the birthplace of the hot rod and custom car culture. With its car-friendly climate, booming postwar economy, and wide open spaces, the region became a breeding ground for innovation and style. In the 1930s and 1940s, dry lakes like Muroc and El Mirage drew speed-hungry rodders, while urban centers like Los Angeles became hubs for custom car builders. Legendary shops such as Barris Kustoms, Valley Custom, and Watson's House of Style all emerged from the West Coast, shaping trends that would influence the world. To this day, the West Coast remains the heart of traditional hot rodding and customizing.
