Tord's first hot rod was a flamed 1939 Ford Tudor street rod. It was Staffan who tipped him about the Tudor in 1971. Working on and off the car, he completed the build around 1983. Photo courtesy of Tord Enström.
Tord did most of the work on the tudor himself. "I painted it black at the school where I worked in 1982. The following year, Staffan and I painted the flames with a small Humbrol paint gun. That took three weeks of working evenings. Ivve Hallberg pinstriped the flames baby blue." Photo courtesy of Tord Enström.

The Tord Enström Photo Collection documents the life and work of Swedish hot rod, custom car and motorcycle builder Tord Enström of Enköping. Tord built his first custom motorcycle, a 1955 Triumph Tiger 650, in 1966. That same year, he struck up a friendship with Staffan Runhag, one of Enköping’s earliest hot rodders, a friendship that would lead to a lifetime of shared projects, cars, and adventures.

Among the highlights of Tord’s early career was his radical 1954 Triumph Thunderbird Chopper, named Länsmans Längtan by Runhag. The chopper was shown at the 1970 Hot Rod Show in Marmorhallarna, Stockholm, and stood out as one of the most striking Swedish choppers of its day.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Tord transitioned into hot rods, beginning with a flamed 1939 Ford Tudor street rod that he bought in 1971. “I bought it from Åkers Styckebruk in Strängnäs,” Tord told Kustomrama in 2020. The Tudor went through a long and careful rebuild, culminating in a black paint job with blue-pinstriped flames. Powered by a hopped-up Mercury flathead 59A, the Tudor earned second place in the Closed Class at the 1983 Hot Rod Show before being sold to Pål Otto Aspen of Trondheim, Norway in 1986.

Following the Tudor, Tord turned his attention to the 1936 Ford Cabriolet project that he had received from Staffan Runhag as a Christmas present in 1975. Built on a boxed frame by Kristan Johansson of Bålsta and running Jaguar suspension with a small-block Chevrolet engine, the cabriolet changed hands in 2002 when it was sold to Jan "Blomman" Blomstrand, another Enköping citizen.

The photo collection features rare snapshots from Tord’s personal albums, covering everything from his first Triumph builds to his award-winning hot rods. These images not only document the cars and bikes themselves but also capture the atmosphere of Sweden’s growing custom and hot rod culture in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.
