The Bakan Coupe was featured on the cover of Hot Rod October 1957. An iconic shot that helped build the car's legacy and reputation.
Lloyd Bakan sold the coupe in the late 1950s. It changed hands several times after that before it ended up with hot rod and custom car collector Don Orosco. Orosco had the car restored, and Olle Eriksson spent a ton of time repairing the body. The restoration was performed by Olle, Brad Hand and Jesse Cruz. 1932 Ford 3-Window Coupe owned by Lloyd Bakan of Eagle Rock, California. The car was initially built by Roger Long in the early 1950s. While Long owned it, the coupe appeared in Fawcett Book 189 Best Hot Rods in 1953.[1]

Sold to Bakan

By 1956, the car had been sold to Lloyd Bakan, and it resurfaced in a four-page feature in Rod & Custom November 1956. Bakan recalled buying the car from a man named Alan Johnson.[1]

Sold and Redone by Barris and Jeffries

In the late 1950s Bakan sold the coupe to Richard Strock, from Southgate, California. Strock commisioned Dean Jeffries to pinstripe it. George Barris and Junior Conway applied gold scallops. This version was shown at the 1960 National Roadster Show in Oakland, California.[1]

Restored by Don Orosco

The car changed hands several times after that. First to Steve Gilligan, then John Potter. Jim Donovan also owned it for a time before it ended up with Don Orosco. Orosco had the car restored, and Olle Eriksson spent a ton of time repairing the body. The restoration was performed by Olle, Brad Hand and Jesse Cruz.[1]
