George Lawson
George S. Lawson was born on October 29, 1907. He showed an early bent for drawing, and as a young boy he used to amaze his friends and family by making quick pencil sketches of them. He took up oil painting as a teenager, and worked on several projects involving religious themes.[1]
After high school, Lawson attended Evansville College and the Cleveland School of Art where he studied sculpting and illustration. He remained in Cleveland after graduation and opened up an independent art studio doing commercial art for local businesses on a freelance basis. Among his clients was the Greyhound Bus Co., and Greyhound Magazine commissioned him to do their covers.[1]
George was the first "Chief Stylist" of the Tucker Corporation, and he was the man who designed the initial version of the Tucker Torpedo. He was 38 years old when he began to work on a quarter-scale model of the car in 1946. Lawson later had a falling out with Preston Tucker, and Alex Tremulis went on to became the "Chief Stylist" of the Tucker Corporation.
For a while, George was studio chief at Buick.
George worked on the design of the Tucker Automobile for two and a half years.
