Danny Purinton's 1956 Mercury
1956 Mercury owned by Lakewood Creators member Danny Purinton of Long Beach, California. The front fenders were molded, the headlights frenched, and the hood nosed with the hood back corners rounded. A mixture of 1956 Mercury and 1955 Lincoln grille parts were used in the front. The rear fenders were extended in order to house a pair of 1956 Lincoln taillight lenses. The headlights were also frenched, and held in place by a hand-formed ring.[1] Ed Schelhaas did all the custom body work, while his painter George Newton painted it in a lustrous Bahamas blue metallic nitro lacquer. Larry Watson of Watson's House of Style pinstriped the car in imitation gold the night before the third annual Norwalk Motorcade in 1956. Ed had Larry pinstripe three of his award winning customs the night before the show.[2]
