1951. Under
Sam Barris's guidance, the car underwent a series of modifications. The first thing Sam told Dick was that he had to put some primer spots on it to make it look like it belonged at the shop. Next, he gave Peep a complete set of
Cadillac Sombreros, telling him that he needed those. They found a way to screw them on before Sam told Peep they had to lower the car. Sam gave Peep blocks for the back, and they figured out how to lower the knee action in front. Finally, he came in with a new set of original teardrop
skirts to ensure the Chevrolet truly got the

George Shugart's 1946 Chevrolet Convertible, an early
California custom built in
Culver City in the late
1940s. George bought the car from his coworker
Bill Elliot, who had already started restyling it but couldn’t keep up with the payments. George took it over and continued the work in his small garage, located right across from the Culver
Theater. By
1949, the Chevy had already made an appearance at
El Mirage, wearing clean lines and molded fenders. Later photos show it even sleeker, with
fender skirts,
whitewalls, and a deep, glossy finish. The rear deck was shaved smooth, and the taillights and license plate were relocated to the bumper, a subtle but sophisticated touch that perfectly captured the era’s emerging custom aesthetic. Photo courtesy of

Mox Miller's 1958 Chevrolet Impala taken in his garage in October of
2010. Purchased new by Miller, the car was transformed into a semi-custom showstopper with a breathtaking
panel paint job by Dick, accentuated by outline striping from
Dennis Ricklefs. Since its completion in
1962, the Impala has never been started or driven in its current configuration. It was meticulously hand-pushed in and out of car shows to maintain its pristine condition—an incredible testament to the era’s custom car culture and craftsmanship. Dick had the car in for some repair before it was shown at the
