The Alexander Brothers' 1931 Ford Model A Coupe

Mike posing next to their in-progress coupe. This photo was taken by Lee Ewald or his buddy Walter Young. Lee lived on the next block over from Larry, in the Brightmoor section of Detroit. "My street was Blackstone, and that second garage they worked in was on Westbrook," Lee told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama in 2014. The photo was taken on the side street of Westbrook and Eaton. "The garage where they worked would have been behind the house and to the left of the photo." Lee recalled Mike and Larry driving the coupe around the neighborhood. "I loved seeing that car driving around, and it prompted me to buy a Model A and fix it up." The car was in gray primer when Lee shot it, but he recalled that it was painted metallic green in the garage not long after he took the photo. 1931 Ford Model A Coupe owned and built by Mike and Larry Alexander of Detroit, Michigan. Known as The Alexander Brothers, Lee Ewald lived on the next block over from Larry. In 2014 Lee told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama that he remembered the brothers building the car in Larry's two-car garage in the Brightmoor section of Detroit. "My street was Blackstone, and that second garage they worked in was on Westbrook." Lee recalled Mike and Larry driving the coupe around the neighborhood. "I loved seeing that car driving around, and it prompted me to buy a Model A and fix it up." Rumored to be the first creation to roll out of the later "Alexander Brothers Custom Shop" on Northwestern Highway near Evergreen Road in Southfield, Lee is 100% positive that the coupe was painted Glade Green Metallic in Larry's garage. Lee saw it many times in the neighborhood when it was completed and painted metallic green. "I remember it had big chrome tips on the exhaust and a great sound. It had a bored and stroked 4-banger in it probably with Offenhauser heads and intake manifold and 2 - 2 barrel carburetors." The A bone was painted Glade Green Metallic, and Mike and Larry completed the build circa 1957.
