Steve Bowman
Steve Bowman was a car enthusiast from the Long Beach and Bellflower area of California. He was a couple of years older than Dave Ellis and attended junior high school with him, having been held back a couple of years. Bowman was old enough to drive a car to junior high school.[1]
In 1963, Bowman took Dave Ellis to his first drag race and introduced him to Gene's Muffler shop in Paramount on Lakewood Boulevard and Larry Watson's paint shop across the driveway. The two hung around both shops regularly after that. "We kind of hung out up there, you know, and we're doing nothing else," Ellis recalled.[1]
