Steve Berg's 1952 Mercury
1952 Mercury restyled by Bear Custom Shop for Steve Berg of Bellflower, California. Steve's Buick featured a hand diamond-patterned stamped mesh grille and 1955 Buick bullets. The headlights were frenched and tunneled 2 inches by using the stock rings. The hood scoop trim was molded to the filled and smoothed hood. The door handles were shaved to gain a cleaner and smoother look. A scoop had been shaped in the rear fender with protruding chromed teeth. In the rear bumper guards and deck handle were removed, 1954 Pontiac Station Wagon taillights were fit in the rear fenders. The side profile was changed by adding 1956 Plymouth trim separating the Astral blue and Arctic white paint job. The interior was richly appointed in both padded and pleated Naugahyde of blue and white hues. Matching floor rugs with padded inserts contributed to the car's standing while competing at auto shows. The front side support trim was chrome plated as well. Dual spotlights and Dodge Lancer hubcaps were added. In 1958 Steve's Mercury was nominated as one of 28 "Top Customs of the Year" by Motor Life magazine.
