Schiefer Manufacturing Company

Paul Schiefer's 1925 Ford Model T Roadster of San Diego, California. Schiefer was a member of the San Diego Roadster Club. He started racing his roadster in 1947, and it became one of the few cars campaigned on the lakes and the strips that, within a decade, saw its first-year top speeds on the dry lakes exceeded by its later 1/4-mile ETs.

Schiefer Manufacturing Company was run and operated by Paul Schiefer of La Mesa, California. San Diego Prowlers member Andy Bekech grew up 5 blocks away from Paul's shop. At the time it was located at the corner of 30th St. at Howard Avenue. Andy would ride his bicycle to Paul's shop and watch the manufacturing and the hot rods that came by. Paul had his machine shop in the back of the building, at the alley, and a small speed equipment sale close to 30th street. As his flywheel and clutch business grew, Paul needed more room, so he moved to the industrial park in the city of La Mesa. La Mesa was only one city East of San Diego, and it was also the town where Paul lived. Andy went to work for Paul in the late 1950s, machining flywheels and assembling clutches. In 2015 Andy told Kustomrama that "Paul always took the time to show and explain to me, the how an whys of of his products. He was a nice person and I learned much from him. Maybe that's why I'm still building hot rods today!"
