Russell Johnson's 1930 Ford
1930 Ford Model A roadster owned by Russell Johnson of Sherman Oaks, California. Russ kept a traditional look on his roadster, even when it was featured in Rod & Custom March 1960 it was post war styled. The 4 cylinder engine was a Model B from out of a 1932 Ford. It was bored 4", had a Cragar overhead valve head with 2" intakes and Winfield cam, Nash lifters and converted Buick pushrods. A custom log manifold supported the two throat Buick carburetor fed by an Autopulse fuel pump. The transmission was from a 1940 Ford, with the case cut and adapted to a AA truck bell housing. A 1940 Ford rear end assembly was empolyed, then set up with a Columbia overdrive. The 1932 Ford grille surround was chrome plated, a great contrast to the Solar Gold painted body. The windshield was leaned back and chopped. 1937 DeSoto bumpers and 1941 Chevrolet taillights were also installed. Russ' roadster also had dual well fender, a rare feature at the time.[1]
