Otto Ryssman's racing career started in 1949, when he was running a competition coupe, at the lakes with the Rusetta Timing Association. Otto was among the first to make use of the organized drag strips when the Santa Ana. In 1949, at the first S.C.T.A. Bonneville Speed Trials, Otto drove Doug Hartelt's 1925 Ford Model-T Roadster in turn with Doug, and they both took turns chauffering the car at El Mirage. In 1952, Otto drove The Post Special Streamliner owned by Harold Post of Orange, California. Powered by a Chrysler engine, the car achieved an average speed of 222.57 mph average over the measured mile.[1]
