Offenhauser Engine Company
Offenhauser Engine Company was started by Fred Offenhauser. Fred began working for Harry A. Miller Manufacturing Company in 1913. When Harry's company went bankrupt in 1933, Fred bought the rights to several of the Miller engines, and started his own company named "Offenhauser Engine Company". While working for Harry A. Miller Fred was responsible for developing an inline six-cylinder aircraft engine. The engine is touted as the first original "Miller" engine. After that he worked closely with Leo Goosen, and together they became indispensable in the development of the Miller's racing engines. Fred retained Leo as chief design engineer for his new company.[1]
During the World War II Offenhauser Engine Company put aside its engine business in order to take on aircraft work for the military. After the war they resumed building engines.
In 1946 Louis Meyer and Dale Drake bought Offenhauser Engine Company and renamed it Meyer & Drake.[1]
