John Bozio is a legendary East Coast customizer. John did always play by the beat of a different drummer, and as a kid he was very much into Buicks, not Ford's and Chevrolet's like everyone else. In 1955 he bought his third custom, a 1953 Buick Roadmaster that he spent the next two years restyling. The car barely survived a fire and the tough 1970s before it was sold to Sweden in 1979. In Sweden it became widely known as the Bozio Buick, and it may be the reason why so many Swedish custom cars of the 1980s and 1990s featured Cadillac dagmars. Herbert "Bud" Unger
Herbert "Bud" Unger is a legendary East Coast customizer. He was born March 12, 1921 in Hancock, Maryland. Bud's father was of German decent. He was a master mechanic and taught Bud a lot about care and respect for using tools. In 1941 Bud went in to the Air Force. In the Air Force he worked as a sheet metal worker, and he learned how to shape and form aluminum. He got out of the Air Force in 1946, and started to work for a body shop in Rosslyn, Virginia. George Barris and Joe Bailon were known as two of the greatest customizers of the West by 1958. Their creations were trend setting, and often used as inspiration for other current builders. At the 9th annual National Roadster Show in February Barris Kustoms entered Bill Carr's 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, the Aztec, while Joe Bailon were present with Joe Tocchini's 1951 Ford Victoria, better known as the Mystery. Their matched skills resulted in a tie in class, and the two competitors had to share the Custom Car D'Elegance award. Click here for more information and photos
