Jerry Gaskill's 1936 Ford

1936 Ford 3-Window Coupe owned by Jerry Gaskill of Goleta, California. Jerry bought the car from the original owner's son in 1974. It was his fourth 1936 Ford, and his second 3-window coupe. According to a story about the car published in the Rod Action Yearbook, the "bull nose" that was used on the car was purchased by Gaskill for use on his first '36 in the late 1940s.

After hauling the car home, Gaskill installed a modern 1970 drivetrain in the car. A 307 Chevrolet engine was installed and hooked up to a 350 Turbo-hydro automatic transmission. In the back, he installed a 1957 Ford rear end. He kept the front and rear suspension stock but installed four Monroe shock absorbers for added ride control.

When the car was featured in the Rod Action Yearbook, it ran 7.10x15 wide whites with red wheels and early style full disc wheel covers that were resurrected by Gaskill. Paint and bodywork were done by Sam Foose of Project Design, who gave it a beautiful black paint job. Ken Perry fitted it with a white interior made up of narrow pleats. The dash was left stock, and all the original gauges were retained. A modern AM/FM radio was mounted in the glove box for a modern sound. An underseat heather provided modern comfort, along with late-model automatic transmission. To keep a further stock appearance, the clutch, and brake pedals were pinned to work together.

Outside, Jerry replaced the stock bumpers with 1941 Ford bumpers. The headlights were converted to sealed beams but retained the stock lenses. The park lights were concealed behind the horn grilles. When Jerry completed the build, he was a member of the Oldies With Goodies car club, and according to the Rod Action Yearbook, a very active rod run participant.

Frank owned the car in 2019. It was still looking good, and other than an engine change from 307 to 350, it had no work done to it since 1974.
