"Hot Rods and Custom Cars" is a book by Ken Gross and Robert Ames published in 2009. The book is filled with pictures taken by Strother MacMinn in the early years of Hot Rods and Custom Cars. The book was released in a numbered limited edition of 1000, and was only available through The Rodder's Journal.

The book elegantly delves in to the rarely seen archive of amazing photos taken by the late Strother MacMinn. The black and white images depict the golden era of hot rodding during the years after World War II. The book is divided into three sections, Hot Rods, Customs, and The Dry Lakes. Each section features magnificent, full-page photographs accompanied by detailed and informative captions written by TRJ Senior Contributing Writer, Ken Gross.

Strother MacMinn was well known as one of the most influential automotive designers of his time. He spent many years working for GM and then independently as an industrial designer for many varied clients. He was also a teacher at the Art Center College of Design, one of the most prestigious automotive design schools, and was involved with the school for nearly fifty years. This year he will be honored posthoumosly at the Automotive Fine Arts Society prior to the Pebble Beach Corcours d'Elegance, where he spent many years as a judge.

The Rodder's Journal featured numerous photos of MacMinn's from the Robert Ames collection in The Rodder's Journal 26. Only 1000 numbered copies have been printed of this limited edition. Each book was hardbound with an elegantly embossed linen cover and presented in a protective sleeve featuring two full size photos.[1]
