Harry "Hairy" Burkholder of Sacramento, California. Harry and his brother Peter built their first Altered drag racer, a 1934 Ford 5-windo coupe in 1958. The car made it's debut at the March 1958 races at Kingdon Drag Strip. As Harry and Peter were from Sacramento, they always considered Kingdon "home", as Sacramento Raceway hadn't opened yet.

After the '34 Harry and Peter raced a AA/Gas altered Bantam from 1960 to 1967. From 1968 to 1973 they raced a 1923 Ford Model T roadster and a AA/FA Fiat.

In 1968 Harry and Peter started going to tracks further away as they got fairly competitive. In the early 1970s they moved from gas altered to fuel, as that was where to competition and money were. The brothers were mostly racing in So-Cal where the Fuel Altered racing was centered. Sacramento and Fremont also had some Altered shows that they would attend.
