Dick Bennet's 1927 Ford
1927 Ford Model-T built by Dick Bennet of Inglewood, California. The Model-T body was built on a 1932 Ford chassis, which insured good handling and performance. The radius rods were split and attached to the side rails with Ford truck tie-rod ends. Dick replaced the old Ford brakes with a set of 1940 Ford hydraulic brakes. The truck was powered by a 1956 Chevrolet mill, bored up to 306.6 cubic inches. The engine was hopped up with Jahns Hi-Dome pistons, an Engle cam, Offenhauser triple manifold, Corvette ignition and Headman "hedders". The Chevrolet engine was connected to a Buick clutch. The transmission was from a 1934 Ford and contained heat-treated gears. The 1940 Ford rear end carried 4.11:1 ratio ring and pinion set. A pair of Columbus tubular shocks kept the truck steady. At the time, the California law requiered rear fenders on all cars over 1500 pounds, Bennet's Model-T was no excuse. The 1932 Ford grille shell was filled and sectioned in order to match the lower Model-T cowl. The pickup bed was made up from sheet stock and featured a chromed roll bar, 1939 Ford taillights and accessory license plate light. The white leather interior was done by Dan's Top Shop. 15 inch wide-base Mercury wheels were added. Once the build was complete, the body was painted jet-black.
