Channeled Body
Rumored to be one of the first custom cars of Indiana, Dean's convertible featured a channeled body. The fenders were kept in the stock position and the running boards were removed. The restyled body was further smoothened by removing most of the chrome, and by molding in the fenders. The door handles were also shaved.
Removable Steel Top
The windshield frame was chopped, and the car was fitted with a removable steel top that could be carried in the rear deck in convertible weather. The top was made from a 1939 Buick four-door roof that was cut down.[1] Up front, the car received a custom grille opening and 1940 Ford headlights. It was dressed up featuring ripple bumper, fenderskirts and Cadillac Sombrero hubcaps. Carl Miller executed the design of the body. Morris Duke painted it once the bodywork was done, and Oscar Brizendine did the upholstering.[2] A set of 1937 Cord instruments completed the dashboard.
Two Motors
Dean had two motors for the car, one 116 h.p. engine and one 185 h.p. engine. The latter was a 1949 Ford block built by Ralph Potter. It ran a Lincoln transmission and a dual ratio rear end, and in May of 1950 it had been clocked at 120 m.p.h.

In May of 1950 the car was shown at the first Indianapolis Custom Auto Show. According to an article in The Indianapolis News Friday, May 19, 1950 the car was said to be one of the first custom cars built in Indiana.[2]

In January of 1951 Dean's Ford placed third in the custom car division at the 2nd annual The Hot Rod, Custom Car and Sport Car Show in Detroit, Michigan.

April 12 to 15, 1951 the car was shown at the Custom, Sports Car and Hot Rod Show in Chicago.
