The one that got away. Around 1978-79 Roger Rennie missed purchasing the car from Darryl Smith. While Roger was in the bank withdrawing the funds for the car, another buyer snapped it from under his nose. The proportions of the car were fantastic in person he told Kustomrama. Rumor has it that the new owner had the car painted black before he wrecked it, and "the 429 engine was removed from the car and put into a ski boat." The one that got away

Around 1978-79 the car was advertised for sale in San Jose. Darryl was selling the car for $1,400, and Roger Rennie missed purchasing it, as another buyer actually bought it while he was at the bank withdrawing the funds, he told Sondre Kvipt of Kustomrama in 2019. Back then it had rolled front and rear pans with a full length 1970 Ford Torino GT taillight and hideaway grille. "The interior was upholstered in white diamond tuck with an overhead console," Roger told Kustomrama. "The rear wheel wells were radiused and flared with wide Rocket mag wheels all around. The right rear quarter panel had a frenched antenna by the quarter window." The majority of the custom bodywork was done by a guy named Jim who loved on Foxworthy Avenue in San Jose.

Where is it now?

Roger didn't have time to take a picture of the car before it was gone. He remembers that the proportions of the car were fantastic in person, and that he loved it from the moment he saw it.
