Cliff Rockohn's 1947 Mercury
1947 Mercury Coupe built by Barris Kustoms for Cliff Rockohn. Cliff's car was chopped 4" in the front and 8" in the rear. The B Pillars were rounded and angled forward. All the handles and emblems were removed, the deck lid was smoothed and the taillights were nicely installed in the rear bumper guard. The trunk, hood and doors were push-button operated. Up front Barris frenched the headlights by using 1941 Mercury headlight rims. The hood was peaked and the moldings were shortened, as a typical Barris trademark at the time. A 1948 Cadillac grille was fit into the reshaped grille opening. All the fenders were molded-in to the body and the runningboards were rolled. Inside, they installed front seats from a 1942 Chevrolet wich was 3" lower than the stock Mercury units. Gaylord upholstered the car.The car was lowered by channeling the body over the frame. Barris wrapped this car up by adding wide whites with Cadillac Sombreros, dual spotlights and fender skirts. The car was painted deep brown.
