California Roadster Association
The California Roadster Association was founded by Babe Ouse in 1945 in his garage. CRA was the first Hot Rod racing organization on the West Coast after the war. Babe wanted to create an organization that worked for building a race track at Gardena, and thereby keeping speed happy boys of the streets. The main consideration of the organization has always been the safety of the drivers.
Members of the first meeting included Babe Ouse, Johnny Walker, Gordy Reid, Chuck Leighton, Paul Cantarano, Don Freeland, Johnny McManama, Walt Owen, Rudy Ramos and a few others. During the first meeting Babe Ouse was voted in as the first president.
The first race of the CRA was held on Labor Day 1946, at Carrel Speedway, the completed Gardena track.
The CRA was suspended during mid season in 1994 and has become part of the Southern California Racing Association history, some say part one of the Second California Racing Association.
