Custom Car Bodies

Custom car bodies are modified or hand-built designs created to give a vehicle a unique appearance, often reflecting the owner's personality or vision. From early coachbuilt luxury cars to postwar customs built in home garages, reshaping body panels has always been a cornerstone of the custom car movement. Popular body modifications include chopped tops, sectioned bodies, nosed and decked hoods and trunks, frenched headlights, and molded fenders. In the 1940s and 1950s, pioneers like Harry Westergard and Sam Barris helped define the look of the American custom with sleek, flowing lines and minimal trim, turning everyday cars into rolling art.
